In Your Hometown - Pastor David

This Sunday our English ministry will return to our Embracing the Familiar series as we continue Jesus’ words in the synagogue in his hometown of Nazareth. We’ll be in Luke’s gospel and our passage will pick up just after Jesus has read from the scroll of Isaiah. Jesus proclaims that the promises of scripture are fulfilled in their hearing. But as they are excited and amazed about his gracious words, Jesus offers a correction for their hearts and reveals a God who is much bigger than they imagined. There is no special favor for his people and God’s grace and blessing includes their enemies. The crowd responds in anger and moves from worshipping in the temple to trying to throw Jesus from a cliff! And yet Jesus walks through the crowd and continues on his Way.

Let’s come in anticipation and ready to be confronted by Jesus’s truth and authority and hear that this is good news for those who have been excluded. Let us consider again whether we choose to join the angry crowd or follow Jesus in his Way.
